Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.

The court issued suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has still to be made public.

A circulating conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.

This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's gender.

Their lawsuit contends that Owens disregarded any factual proof that refuted her assertions in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has regularly repeated these allegations on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she taught at his high school.

The couple married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
